Getting started

Add your own API key, draft one block at a time, and find every generation again in the post's revision history.

A draft is a starting point, not a publish button. AI Content Builder works inside the block editor, one block at a time, and writes every generation into the post’s revision history so you can see exactly what it changed.

Install and add a key

wp plugin install subset-content-builder --activate

The free version runs on your own API key. It never proxies through us, we never see your prompts, and there is no per-generation charge from us — your provider bills you directly and we are not in the middle of it.

Paste the key into Settings → Content Builder (placeholder — not final). It is stored in the WordPress options table.

Draft one block at a time

Select a block in the editor and open the Content Builder panel. What you generate replaces or extends that block and nothing else.

This is the design decision the plugin is built around. “Generate a post” produces something that has to be rewritten from the top; generating into the structure you have already decided keeps the structure. An outline you wrote, filled in a paragraph at a time, is a usable draft — a wall of generated text is a second draft waiting to happen.

Every generation is a revision

Each generation is written as a WordPress revision before it becomes the block’s content. That means:

  • The diff view shows precisely what the model changed.
  • Rolling back is the revision restore you already know how to use.
  • A generation you dislike is recoverable rather than gone.

It also means the revision table grows faster than it used to. On a site with WP_POST_REVISIONS set to a small number, generations will push earlier revisions out — worth raising the limit if you intend to generate heavily.

Tone presets

A preset is a saved instruction prepended to your prompt. The presets that ship are editable, and editing them is expected: “professional” means something different for a law firm and a skate shop, and the shipped wording cannot know which you are.
