Image Resizer

Shrink every upload before it ever reaches a visitor.

WordPress keeps the 6000-pixel photo somebody dragged in from a phone, and then serves it. Image Resizer caps dimensions on upload, converts to modern formats, and can go back and fix everything already in the library.

DocumentationChangelog

The free version is not on WordPress.org yet. Its listing will be at wordpress.org/plugins/subset-image-resizer and goes live with the first release.

What it does

How Image Resizer works

Caps dimensions on upload
A max width and height are applied before the original is written to disk, so the oversized file never occupies the uploads directory at all.
Converts to WebP and AVIF
Modern formats are generated alongside the original and served by a picture element, with the original kept as the fallback.
Regenerates the existing library
The bulk pass runs as a resumable queue that checkpoints after every attachment, so a PHP timeout costs you one image rather than the whole run.
Leaves the original recoverable
The untouched upload is retained until you explicitly prune it, because a destructive default on somebody's photo archive is not a default.

Free and Pro

What each version includes

Pro is an add-on plugin that sits alongside the free one. Nothing in the free list moves behind the licence, ever — and if a Pro licence lapses, the free plugin keeps working.

Free

WordPress.org

The real plugin. No nag, no time limit, no feature held back to sell you something.

  • Max width and height on upload
  • WebP conversion with a quality dial
  • Per-image regenerate from the media library
  • Strip or keep EXIF, your call

Pro

Add-on

Everything in Free, plus the work that has an ongoing cost behind it.

  • Bulk regenerate the whole library, resumable
  • AVIF alongside WebP
  • Per-thumbnail-size quality rules
  • Scheduled sweeps for new uploads
  • WP-CLI commands for every operation

Screens

What it looks like

These are placeholders, not screenshots. Image Resizer is still being built, and a mocked-up admin screen would be a picture of software that does not exist yet. Each frame says what the real image will show.

Placeholder — not a screenshot
The settings screen: max dimensions, format checkboxes, and the quality dial per output format.
Placeholder — not a screenshot
The bulk regenerate queue mid-run, showing processed count, bytes saved, and the resume point.

Waitlist

Want Image Resizer when it ships?

It is not on WordPress.org yet and there is no date worth printing. Leave an address and you will hear about this one specifically — we record which plugin you asked about, so you are not signed up to news about the other three.

One confirmation email, then nothing until there is something worth saying. Unsubscribing takes one click and no account.

We cannot send email yet — there is no mail provider connected to this site. Your address and what you are waiting for are stored now, and the confirmation link is sent the moment sending works.
