What Subset is

Subset is a small studio building WordPress plugins that do one thing. It exists because the alternative kept being a single plugin with forty features, thirty-eight of which were someone else's problem.

Why a suite and not one plugin

A plugin that resizes images and also manages consent and also handles redirects is three products sharing a settings page and a release cycle. Every install carries code it will never run. Splitting them means you install what you need, each piece stays small enough to reason about, and a bug in one cannot take down the other three.

Why the free versions are not trials

WordPress.org is how people find plugins, and a listing that exists only to upsell wastes everybody's time. Each free plugin is the thing it says it is. Pro is the work that costs us money to run — bulk operations that need a queue, hosted generation that needs a provider bill, audit trails somebody will be asked to produce in a meeting.

Why the licence cannot break your site

The plugins are GPL. We sell updates, support and hosted services, not permission to run code. The licence client caches its last good check for three days and fails open, so a network problem on our side is invisible on yours. An expired licence stops updates. It does not disable anything, and it does not put a banner in your dashboard.

What is not built yet

Quite a lot. The free plugins are being finished, the Pro add-ons follow, and prices are not set. This site is deliberately ahead of the software so that what we are building is written down somewhere you can hold us to.

The whole thing is built in the open.

The repository is public, including the decisions — pricing shape, hosting, licensing rules — written down before the code that depends on them.
